Re: An Evening Without Monty Python
I'm fortunate enough to live in the Los Angeles area, so I was able to see the show. Actually, I ended up seeing it three times. Jeff played:
I left right after the show ended the first night because I didn't think they'd be coming into the lobby to greet people-- I was wrong. The next time we went we were assured they come out and greet the guest, and they did. His dad was there that day, so we felt it was inappropriate to approach him right away; we gave him some time with his family. Once other people were talking to him we saw that as our cue.
Walking up to him was the first time I really understood how tall he really is. I'm 6', was wearing 2" boots, and it still seemed as though he towered over me.
He reached his hand out to give me a handshake and I somehow got the courage to ask for a hug instead. He was more than happy to oblige but was quick to apologize that he was still quite sweaty. I assured him I didn't mind. We talked for a few minutes, I mentioned that he was one of my favorite comedians and he reacted with genuine elation-- it really made me happy that he was so excited. Then I asked for a photo. Which he, again, was more than happy to oblige. He put his arm around my shoulder and we shared a small dialogue that makes me chuckle a bit to this day.
My friend got her photo taken with him as well. He tugged her hair as he was putting his arm around her, which resulted with her with a funny face, and he with a slight smirk.
I got a goodbye hug, and went off to say "hello" to Jane Leeves and Alan Tyduk.
The next time I went (about a week later) I wanted to say hello to the performers I had missed at the prior show, and figured what the heck I'll give kudos to Jeff again. I was walking in his general direction and he looked up and said, "Hey, you came back!" I was stoaked he remembered me. We talked for a few minutes, I got another photo, and a couple more hugs. As a native Californian I have to say-- it was totally awesome!
Jeff Davis is definitely one of the sweetest, nicest people anyone could be lucky enough to meet.
